Honeywell is our alarm system manufacturer of choice. We have tested many panels over the years and Honeywell has the best track record and scored best in terms of ease of use. Honeywell manufacturers three different types of alarm panels. The Honeywell Lyric, Lynx and Vista. The Lyric will be released later this year and we have written an article on the Honeywell Vista that can be found here. In this post we tell you all about the Honeywell Lynx panels. What they are best used for and some unique features they have.
What is the Honeywell Lynx?
The Lynx is Honeywell’s answer for an all in one alarm panel. The Lynx encases the main circuit board, communicators, screen and keypad within the same unit. The result is an easy to install and a great looking alarm panel. The Lynx beats the competition with the variety of communication paths that it supports. The Lynx supports phone line communications, GSM and IP. All these communication units are housed right within the device, and are very reliable. The communication paths can also be used in conjunction with one another for added security. All zones except zone 1 are wireless zones. The idea is to have a door sensor that is mounted close to the unit as the one wired zone, and all other zones wireless. This allows for a very easy and clean install of the alarm panel.
Versions of the Lynx
There are two versions of the Lynx panel. The Lynx 5200 and the Lynx 7000. The major difference is that everything on the Lynx 7000 is a little bit larger. The screen size for the L5200 is 4.8 inches, while the L7000 has a 7 inch screen. The Lynx 7000 also drops the support for a phone line, relying solely on IP and GSM communications for alarm communications. Here are some more differences:

Usage for the Lynx
The Lynx panel is a great solution for smaller finished homes and small businesses. The Lynx unit is completely wireless and as such is great for a non-destructive installation of an alarm system within the premises. The system can only have one touchscreen panel, and can be expanded with the Honeywell 5828 wireless keypad. For higher end homes, where more than one touchscreen is required, we recommend the Honeywell Vista series Panels. For larger businesses, we also recommend the Vista series panels, as switching batteries on alarm keypads is not an option. Learn more on the Honeywell Vista Panels here.
