Honeywell Vista Alarm Panels

 In Alarm Systems

We use Honeywell exclusively for our alarm system installations. We are Honeywell certified and have had nothing but great results with their panels. Honeywell offers the Vista and Lynx series alarm panels. We have an article for the Lynx panels here.  Honeywell will also be releasing a new panel called the Lyric. Not much is known about that panel yet, so we will release and article once we can get our hands on it. Here we examine what features the Vista panels offer and what they are used for best.

What is the Honeywell Vista?

Vista-Series-Panel

The Vista panels have been around for a long time and have visually not changed. The technology within the panel has been updated over the years, but there are still some panels around that have been installed for a few decades. This just goes to show how reliable the Honeywell panels really are. The vista is a control panel and is controlled via keypads that have to be wired straight back to the main control panel. The Vista also supports a Touchscreen interface, which is called the Tuxedo. The panel also supports a variety of communication paths, such as phone line, GSM and IP. If set up correctly the panel can be set up to use two or more communication paths, to ensure maximum security. The communicators are external modules, unlike the internal communicators that the Lynx utilizes.

Versions of the Vista

There are a few different versions of the panel. The larger the number, the larger the capabilities of the panel. There are capabilities for more user codes, more zones, more touchscreens and so on. Partitions are the capability to have two separate areas that are monitored independently of each other. Only the Vista 20 and 21 support these features. The only difference between the Honeywell Vista 20 and Vista 21iP is that the 21iP has an on-board IP communicator that can be used for alarm communications, and does not require an external communicator.

Usage for the Vista

The Vista panels are a great solution for retrofitting an existing wired installation. The Vista is also a great solution for buildings that are being renovated or newly built. It is much easier and quicker to run wires if the walls are open, and as such, much more cost effective for the end-user. There are virtually no restrictions for the usage of Vista panels. They can be used in small homes, up to large commercial spaces. Ultimately for larger commercial spaces a commercial Honeywell panel should be used, but the Vista will suffice for most installations.
