The importance of securely mounting your products

In Access Control, Alarm Systems, Video Surveillance

Mounting your security and A/V devices securely and properly is an absolute must. Unfortunately building and safety codes are oftentimes ignored and can become a huge liability issue. If a camera, speaker or even a server is not properly mounted and becomes dislodged over time, it can have catastrophic results, damaging your property, and might even cause personal injury or death. It is important to use a professional installer to prevent exactly these types of issues. Should anything ever happen, the concern is not only the monetary costs of repairing the damages, or pay outs to the people that have been harmed, but also the reputation of the business.

As with anything, accidents can happen. When we install equipment, we ensure there are backup measures in place, should the main mounting solution ever fail. Whether it is a cabinet, server rack, speaker or really anything else the proper mounting and proper hardware should be used for each one of them.

Oftentimes the failures can be attributed to using the wrong hardware, such as exceeding the weight limit on drywall anchors, too short screws even using to few screws to hold the mount on. The other common cause of mounting failure is the actual mount itself. Mounts are built to withstand a certain amount of weight, attached to a certain type of wall or ceiling, and a certain size of object. That’s why TV mounts are often sold with a maximum weight notice and a maximum display size notice. Should a TV be attached that is larger than the weight the mount is built for, it might hold for a while. However the weight distribution can cause fatigue on the mount and cause it to fail prematurely.

The same goes for speakers, server racks, cameras, projectors and so on. With this in mind, every mount for these devices has to be customized for the application and device itself. Buying and mounting a display mount is not as easy as it seems. We are here to help and  have a vast number of mounting solutions available. Our mounts can be sourced from multiple manufacturers to make sure we have the right solution for your device and application. From standard wall mounting solutions to specialty ceiling mounts and video wall mounts, we carry and install it all.

To properly protect your devices and ensure that they can all be wall mounted we recommend server racks. These racks are able to carry multiple network switches, servers, audio & video devices and more. With a server rack you can ensure that your devices do not exceed the maximum weight rating of the rack, while also protecting your devices from unauthorized access. More on server racks here.
